Pirate Castle - We Can Move

The Pirate Castle

In 1966 The Pirate Castle opened its doors to provide the surrounding community with access to boating and outdoor activities. Development Manager, Kal and Lead Paddle Sport Coach, Beate, share how activities at The Pirate Castle can benefit you.

“We are located on Regent’s Canal in the vibrant area of Camden Town, providing residents with paddle sports and water activities such as Kayaking, Canoeing, Bell Boating, and Canal Boating. Almost all of our activities can accommodate participants with low to moderate additional physical needs and The Pirate Castle is committed to increasing and improving their accessibility to ensure that all our activities are inclusive.

“At The Pirate Castle our primary aim is to promote life chances, learning and healthy living through stimulating activities on the canal that are inclusive, affordable and accessible. As well as the opportunity to be physically active, we also give people of all ages the opportunity for training and volunteering.

“With a year round programme (excluding Christmas) which includes; after school sessions on Wednesdays, Over 50s drop in sessions, school holiday schemes for 8-18 year olds and group bookings for local schools, The Pirate Castle has something for everyone. Our largest boat, The Princess Pirate boat, which is fully accessible, can even be used for residential groups. We have inclusive price ranges, which allows for as many participants as possible.

“Paddle sport in an inner London borough, is a truly unique experience. It allows city dwellers to get back in touch with nature and gain sense of calm without having to go very far. There are many benefits to paddle sports and water activities, for both your physical and emotional well-being. When paddling the movement allows you to use every muscle group in your body, in ways you may not on a regular basis.

“Being on the water is not just about physical health, it can also have an impact on your emotional and mental wellbeing. You get the opportunity to socialise with friends and family or make new friends, all whilst doing something unique and refreshing.”
