Coram’s Fields - We Can Move
Coram’s Fields was set up in 1936 - it’s a unique 7-acre children’s playground based in the heart of inner-city London in Russel Square. The charity provides positive activities for children and young people from new born babies up until the age of 19. Naz Deen, Head of Youth and Sports, talks about how they’re helping young people in Camden to feel happier and healthier.
“Our aims and objectives are to provide a safe and thriving hub for all individuals regardless of age, ethnicity and background to enhance their personal and social development.
“At Coram’s Fields we pride ourselves in developing children and young people and assist in a challenging transitional phase in their lives - from childhood to adolescents and into adulthood. One of the ways we do this is to invest time in each individual to find out what they would like to take part in and how we can facilitate their wish through a spectrum of sport and exercise. It truly is a rewarding journey.
“The main objective of our Sports Development Programme is to improve the lives of children and young people by encouraging a healthy lifestyle through diverse sport and exercise projects. All of our structured and targeted sports sessions look to enhance social skills like confidence, self-esteem and communication.
“Sport has the power to change, it can unite communities, and it can lead to happier and healthier individuals. It also gives every person a unique experience that can lead to many positive outcomes and health benefits.
“That’s why we remove all barriers to participation by keeping our sessions free and accessible for all participants. We deliver over 20 hours of free sport sessions a week for 5 – 19 year olds all year round.
“All of our sports sessions are safe and fun yet purposeful and tailored to suit individual needs. This ranges from children wanting to play sport to improve their confidence and fitness to those simply wanting to try a new hobby or those wanting to make new friends. We cater for all young people.”
