Camden Fencing Club - We Can Move

Camden Fencing Club

Camden Fencing Club

Camden Fencing Club opened in September 2001 as a community youth project and has now become a beacon club in the Camden Sports Academy. The club’s Chair, Patricia Aiyenuro, talks about the benefits of fencing and how you can get involved.

“For a long time fencing has had this image of being an elite sport but at Camden Fencing Club, we want to prove that anyone from any background can get involved in fencing. It is fun, social and improves your fitness at the same time.

"Camden Fencing Club welcome beginner and experienced fencers of all ages and members of the club compete at various levels. A number of our cadet, junior and senior members even compete at international level.

"One of our main aims as an organisation is to increase the number of people taking part in fencing from a range of backgrounds, with a special emphasis on women and people from BAME backgrounds.

"Most of our junior members live in Camden and/or attend schools in the borough whereas our adult members come from a wide area to enjoy regular fencing and access to experienced coaches.

"We specialise in Sabre and Foil fencing and offer free taster sessions, beginner courses, intermediate courses and advanced courses as well as summer camps for children.

"Practicing fencing provides a range of exercises for your body and mind. The physical benefits of fencing include increased coordination, agility, balance, flexibility, strength and cardiovascular endurance. Fencing is also great for the brain – in fact it’s often referred to as ‘physical chess’ due to the logic, strategy and tactics behind the movements.”

Camden Fencing Club runs regular taster activities so you can give the sport a go for free. Concessionary membership rates are available. Find out more on the Camden Fencing Club website or email [email protected].
